New Year-New Garden: Landscape Design


This two-day course runs from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, January 10 and Sunday, January 11 at the Botanic Garden Visitor’s Center at 1490 Red Drive, Traverse City. Cost is $99 for Botanic Garden members and $129 for nonmembers.

Planning a garden overhaul? Gain the design skills and learn the theory to elevate your garden landscape to the next level.

Looking to design a new garden or enhance your current landscape? This two-day immersive program will teach you the design skills and theory to take your gardening to the next level. Through engaging group exercises, you’ll explore key factors in landscape design and learn efficient techniques for planning your garden layout. Open to gardeners of all skill levels, this exclusive course is led by Executive Director Matthew Ross. Seating is limited to 20 participants, with all supplies and equipment provided.

Classes will be held January 10th & 11th from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM each day at the Botanic Garden Visitor's Center. In the event of inclement weather, class will be held the following week January 17th and 18th.

About our Instructor

Matthew Ross is the Executive Director of The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park. Before coming to Traverse City, he worked as the Continuing Education Director at Longwood Gardens overseeing over 200 programs in horticulture, landscape design, and floristry. He is nationally recognized as a leader in horticulture and gardening, and has a BS and MS from Michigan State University in Horticulture Science with an emphasis in Landscape Design Construction Management and Urban Forestry respectively.
